Common Entrance Skills Prep
Our English and Maths sessions will be pitched at those looking to take Common Entrance examinations for Year 7 or Year 9 admissions. We will focus on key skills required for success at either level and the fun and engaging nature of the topics will promote a really positive climate for learning.
We understand the need to strike a balance between consolidating crucial knowledge and making the sessions appeal to the holiday learner.
There will be a practical element to most sessions and they will be based around topics which will appeal to those participating. News of specific course content will be posted in due course.
What is a Common Entrance paper?

Many independent schools require anyone applying for a position at the school to sit one of these tests. Those applying to get into Year 7 will sit the paper in the September when they have started Year 6 (so, a year before). Examinations at this level normally only consist of English, Maths and sometimes Science. They are not scholarship examinations (scholarship examinations are more challenging and success results in school fees being reduced or even waived).
13+ Common Entrance
As above, many independent schools require applicants for the school to sit these tests. Some independent schools (particularly boarding schools) only start taking pupils from Year 9. Therefore, those applying will sit these examinations on September of Year 8 (again, a year before). These examinations can consist of the entire suite of academic-based subjects, so English, Maths, all three Sciences, History, Geography and one or more languages. This is not an exhaustive list. Generally, parents will know which subjects their child needs to study. However, for the purposes of our holiday tutoring programme, we will be focusing on the core subjects: English, Maths, Science. If asked about the possibility of including other subjects, just tell them that we are considering this for the summer and beyond, depending on demand.
